Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience's Mission is to serve our community through outreach especially to those who need medical care the most.
Our Mission is to partner and work with international and local institutions to advance the care and research of neurological conditions in Hawaii like Alzheimer's and others.
Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience is recognized nationally for our work in neuroscience conducted at the Clinical Research Center (link) and BRITL (Brain Research, Innovation & Translation Labs). HPN’s robust clinical and academic research programs fosters a culture of innovation and collaboration. Physicians and scientists work closely within and across centers, institutes and schools to collaborate whether they are basic laboratory based scientists, bio statisticians or clinicians to encourage cross disciplinary translation bench to bedside research.
REALIZING THE DIRE NEED for neuroscience care in the community, Dr. Kore Kai Liow founded Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience in 2009 to make a difference in Hawaii. An innovator and entrepreneur who challenges the status quo, Dr. Liow is known for his pragmatic approach to problem-solving and believes that problems can be opportunities for growth.
Today, HPN has a national reputation for providing top-quality care to over 20,000 patients annually and has brought more than 150 groundbreaking neuroscience research therapies to Hawaii, eliminating the need for patients to travel to the Mainland for cutting-edge care.
Dr. Liow holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine (Neurology) and Graduate Faculty in Clinical and Translational Research at UH JABSOM, where he was awarded the 2021 John M. Hardman, M.D. Award for Mentoring in Teaching. Dr. Liow’s mission of “giving back” is carried out by HPN’s dedicated team of 50+ staff members, who provide care regardless of insurance. He and his team volunteer their time to mentor future physicians by providing clinical rotations and allow them to engage in numerous research projects.
Congratulations and Mahalo to Dr. Liow for his unwavering commitment to investing in the lives and future of Hawaii and the Pacific Region, for over a decade.

HPN works diligently to go above and beyond to accomplish more then we could ever think is possible – it is through an alignment between values and goals by building collaborative relationships built on empathy and trust that we find ourselves as number 1 choice for neurologically related healthcare needs. Transformational Leadership involves the process of envisioning a desired outcome, analyzing present reality and realizing the opportunities for improved healthcare delivery via cultural change within our organization. It is only through effective collaboration that we can achieve healthier communities.
Transformation requires growth and in the midst of growth demands resilience that starts prior to any major event and is continually monitored during and following any major change. HPN understands that a resilient healthcare system is expected to consistently deliver high quality care despite the disruptive events that surrounds us and that we are to continually adapt, learn and improve under any circumstance
The Unity that HPN experiences within the organization starts with an individual decision we must independently make. We place our overall values on working together to achieve a common goal that we are here to care for people and the main reason we exist. Whether it is working together or taking care of one another we understand that unity is hard work but it is in the togetherness despite separation that provides us with the momentum to progress the future of healthcare for the state of Hawaii, the Pacific Region and beyond.
The ability to provide consistently to meet and manage a patients expectations – our commitment to a service of excellence requires us to evaluate 4 key elements; to deliver the promise of quality healthcare, provide a personal touch, doing a more than adequate job and resolving problems well.
