Biography

Biography

Liow is an innovator, entrepreneur, CEO, founder and Neuroscience Chair of Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience, & Clinical Professor of Medicine (Neurology), Graduate Faculty in Clinical & Translational Research at the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Liow trained as a research neurologist at NINDS, NIH and continues to serve NIH on its Review Study Section and Scientific Merit Review. He has devoted his life and spends majority of his time in neuroscience research carried out at Clinical Research Center where he has served as principal investigator (PI) for over 200 phase 0-IV clinical trials sponsored by the NIH, CDC and the industries. He is a nationally sought-after key opinion leader and published over 100 peer reviewed PubMed publications and served on NIH Review Study Section, Scientific Merit Review committees and advisory panel for CDC, AMA, AAN etc.

He has written and submitted research protocols to secure FDA IND applications and worked with sponsors on trial conception, design, development. As PI, his performance matrix scores at 90% of patients randomized and 95% patients completing studies. His Clinical Research Center has a national reputation as a top-performing site and rapid site start up. He currently mentors over 20 medical students at the BRITL (Brain Research, Innovation & Translation Labs) which includes the Center for Neuroscience Diversity Advancement.

 

He is a self declared pragmatist and sees problems as opportunities and a firm believer in “problems don’t have to be problems unless you allow them to be. Problems often introduce us to ourselves, others and opportunities. Pragmatism Serves us well as Leaders. Let go of the need to be right and focus on the greater need to do right. Believing there is always an answer is an asset.  Problem solving is a choice, not a function of circumstance. No matter how difficult your circumstances may seem, there is likely a solution that not only resolves the problem, but has the potential to improve your life and your leadership.
