Dr. Viereck is staff neurologist and the Director of the Stroke and Neurologic Restoration Center at Hawaii Pacific Neuroscience. He joined HPN after eight years with New England Neurological Associates in Lowell, Massachusetts where he was a partner and head of the Stroke Division. In addition, he served on the Hospital Oversight Committee and the Executive Council at Lowell General Hospital.
Dr. Viereck studied biochemistry as an undergraduate at San Francisco State University. From there, he entered St. Louis University where he received his MD as well as a Ph.D. in Pharmacology. After two years of post-doctoral research studying neuropeptides at the University of Paris, he returned to the US to resume his neurology training at Boston University. He stayed on at BU to complete a fellowship in cerebrovascular diseases, after which he served as an attending physician for eight years. During this time he was also the Scientific Manager for the Center for High Field Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Dr. Viereck’s 15 years of clinical experience in the acute treatment of stroke syndromes include the management of patients receiving thrombolysis and intravascular treatments. In addition to his expertise in the clinical and physiological aspects of cerebrovascular disease, Dr. Viereck is strongly focused on helping his patients prevent stroke and stroke reoccurrence through lifestyle and dietary modifications.
